I was born in southeastern Pennsylvania.  My grandfather was a veterinarian so from the time I was old enough carry a bucket, I was out and about with him on farm calls and working in his office.  He had a small farm with 15 Arabians, a few beef cattle, pigs and for a while chickens.  I worked at neighboring farms milking the holsteins before school each morning.  I was routinely used as ballast while breaking the horses each spring (spending nearly as much time in the air as in the saddle) but also rode for pleasure and in pleasure classes at regional shows.
I learned and spent significant time in the outdoors as I grew up.   I was a Boy Scout, reaching the rank of Eagle Scout.  I still enjoy many of the activities of my youth; such as camping, hiking, hunting, canoeing/kayaking, skiing, spelunking and riding.  My son is also becoming skilled in the ways of the outdoorsmen so I hope to have more time to dedicate to the pursuit with him.
I attended Penn State University and earned a B.S. in Animal Bioscience.  I did my masters at University of Maryland in Parasitology.  While applying and waiting for acceptance into one of the 26 veterinary schools in the USA, I took up work in landscape and construction industry.  I became quite skilled at operating heavy machinery and obtained my license to drive tractor trailers.  After four years of denial letters, waiting lists and disappointment, I applied and was accepted to Ross University in St. Kitts.  The best decision in my life, Ross offered me the finest education currently available.  The curriculum in St. Kitts follows all the standards set by US schools though incorporates significant hands on medical and surgical study.  Graduates of Ross have dozens of surgeries from the common spay/neuter procedures to orthopaedic, reconstructive, heart and vascular, and major abdominal procedures.  Students at US schools rarely even have the opportunity to observe such procedures.  I did my final year of school, or the clinical portion, at Oklahoma State University.  At OSU, I spent considerable time in radiology and large animal surgery rotations.  I became quite proficient and considered staying on for a residency in Radiology though financial concerns ultimately led me to the working world once again.
I worked at a mixed animal practice in upstate New York, just south of Buffalo for two years.  I spent most of that time, day and night, working dairy herd health.  I moved back to southeastern PA in 1999 and went to work for a multi-doctor practice in York, PA.  I focused on small animal medicine and surgery and my philosophies on preventative care.  In Feb of 2004 I moved to Melbourne, FL and have been offering what I believe to be honest, quality care to my clients' fur/feather/scale covered family members.
